San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band Tuba
Mountain View, CA
I was a high school Band kid, but went to college at a time when Carnegie Mellon didn't allow engineers to join the Band. So no Band fraternities (I was in Pi Kappa Alpha, a social fraternity instead). I've played piano since I was 5, but took up the tuba in middle school. Both continue to be sources of enjoyment for me musically to this day.
Oh, and I'm a computer software engineer at a large semiconductor test equipment firm. And I collect stamps from Israel. I've been hanging with LGBA since my first event with any gay band (March on Washington, Oct 1987), and a member of the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band since then as well. I've never performed on piano in public, but I came close. I did perform once on bass trombone, and that was for President Carter's first inaugural (the standing performance). Ask me about what else you'd like, I have a lot of fond memories, from being chased off Capitol Mall, to standing in fields in Denver waiting for St. Patrick's Day parade to start, to being wedged into New Orleans Square with bandmates during Southern Decadence's Pride Parade. Cologne Germany, trying to understand the street signs, to Dublin Ireland, transcribing parts for a gig off the plane on Eb tuba (I played BBb) while everyone else ate lunch. Gay Games VI in Chicago too, Showboat '89 in South Florida, been there, got the tee shirts! Let's make more memories in Chicago this year! Hugs to y'all!
